FanFiction is Good

Image
Listen, from the title alone you probably have some questions. I didn't think I was ever going to write about this topic but my blog is all about books and reading and the reality is that you can't really talk about reading and avoid fanfiction. Well, I guess technically you can because there is so much to talk about when it comes to reading but fanfiction is such an interesting topic that I refuse not to talk about it for one second longer.      To rewind a bit, if you're not familiar with fanfiction i'll give a brief explanation. Fanfiction is exactly what the name implies. A work of fiction written by a fan of a TV show, book, movie and so on, that includes characters, settings and more from that piece of work. To simplify even more, it is writings based on an existing piece of fiction. Fanfiction has no rules or boundaries, except of course the legal side where you cannot profit off of fanfiction because the intellectual...

Hootsuite and HubSpot

I never thought about getting a certificate in anything related to social media. I did not know that companies like Hootsuite and HubSpot existed and I certainly never knew how much work actually goes into posting on social media, especially for an organization. I always assumed that someone had to go on the page and manually upload the post. I also thought that organizations just posted the same exact things everywhere without changing any part of it. When the Hootsuite and HubSpot certifications were mentioned in my social media strategies class, I had a lot of questions and a lot of doubt that the...

Falling in Love with Reading

When I was younger I would read all the time. I wish I could say that I first started reading because I liked to do it but that is just not the case. In elementary school there was a program in place that would reward a student for reading. After reading a book and taking a test about it, AR (Accelerated Reader) points would be given. For every 25 points, the student received a tag boasting the amount of points they have earned. If someone reached 100 or more points, they would be invited to the end of year pizza party. Needless to say, I worked really hard to get that invite. I would read anything that got me a lot of points. Short biographies on the presidents, any Magic Tree House book, the I Survived series. If the back of a cereal box would have gotten me points I would have read it. All this to say, that while I was reading a lot, I did not really absorb any of the information and therefore never really enjoyed reading. It was not until the fifth grade that I was introduced to ...
